On Saturday we introduced the students to the editing process. Most students had already begun filming and some were almost finished recording their footage. At the beginning of class, students presented to each other the main idea for their stories, the main message they wanted to communicate. While most students were clear on their storyline, some were finding it difficult to answer the question, "what is your purpose for telling this story?"
But once they began editing, worlds of possibility opened, and new ideas were born.
We started with a breif tutorial in iMovie. Most students used computers before
but have never worked with iMovie.
Pretty soon they were off, playing around, asking great questions, and exploring
the multitude of options that editing allows.
By the end of the day, several students had decided to change their stories, or make a second movie. It was inspiring to watch them discover the new forms their videos could take, and the lightbulbs go off in their creative minds.
